“A Hero Comes Home” (Beowulf OST)
Performed by Idina Menzel
Out of the mist of history he’ll come again
Sailing on ships across the sea to a wounded nation
Signs of a savior and fire on the water
It’s what we prayed for, one of our own
Just wait though wide he may roam
Always a hero comes home
He goes where no one has gone
But always a hero comes home
Deep in the heart of darkness sparks a dream of light
Surrounded by hopelessness he finds the will to fight
There’s no surrender, always remember
It doesn’t end here, we’re not alone
Just wait though wide he may roam
Always a hero comes home
He goes where no one has gone
But always a hero comes home
And he will come back on a crimson tide
Dead or alive
And even though we know the bridge has burned
He will return… He will return!
Just wait though wide he may roam
Always a hero comes home
He knows of places unknown
But always a hero comes home
Someday he may carve his stone
The hero comes home
He goes and comes back alone
But always a hero comes home
Just wait though wide he may roam
Always a hero comes home.

I agree with Paul! Beowulf rocks but this is rubbish! Come oooon,
“Just wait though wide he may roam
Always a hero comes home”
How could they ever choose such a theme song!
Hrothgar Said:
on November 26, 2007 at 1:57 am
This is a different version of the song that is in the movie. Originally Hrothgar’s queen plays it for Beowulf when he requests one more song. She plays it on a harp. The version with the drumset that is more modern is played during the credits. Many historical or time period movies modernize their theme song for the credits, this is not uncommon.
I really like this song, and I think that it fits with the story and the movie very well. The melody is very catchy and beautiful too, I find myself whistling it sometimes.

Hey The song fits the movie because it fits the time period and not to mention it fits the situation in the film when it was played she choose a song about a traveling hero to sing to a traveling hero. what does not fit?

I agree with guru, and if you don’t like the lyrics blame the people who wrote all the other songs in Beowulf b/c they wrote this one and got Idina to sing it. (and she is the perfect one to sing it!!! She is AMAZING!)

Um… I think the main concept was about Heroes. Yes, this song matched perfectly with the movie: Beowolfe comes to save this poor country, and then when the dragon is attacking it–he comes back to save it again! Damn it, can’t u ppl stop bombing this song? It is a great song and talks about a hero and his awesome return (something like Odysee or something…)

I realy don’t see anything bad with the song…maybe it’s not the tipical “I’ll dissapear” of Metallica to Mission Imposible, but it’s an epical movie!!! you got to feel the message

I think this song was amazing, the version actually used in the movie was perfect, it really represented the time. It was like a legend but in verse, which was so typical.
Cille Said:

Well it’s typically Viking! And I happen to be a dane who knows just a little on Vikings. Their songs were about heroes that would come home to their wives and about pillaging and slaughtering. But it’s great. I think it is.
Lovely song, fits the whole story because he could have fled when he had the chance, but he had to defend his home.
Surely the text never really fits the movie, seriously, have you ever even seen movies?
This one is great.
lovely performed as well, she does some great work there.

This song is hardcore, the sole reason for that being that it is sung by Idina Menzel, who is basically a goddess. She needs her own holiday, I swear.

This is such an amazing song, I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it, don’t know if its because the first time I herd it was in the movie or because of Idina, whatever the reason this song is great, very emotional and fit the movie really well

I really loved this song!
I’m from Mexico and you don’t know how much I paid for the imported soundtrack of the movie! Only to have this great song and the ones that Robin Penn-Wright performs, which are also great! Though, the complete soundtrack is worth. Actually, it’s the best from the movie; I mean, it’s a nice movie if we don’t take into account that it’s an adaptation… because it’s a terrible adaptation…
I’m enchanted by Idina Menzel’s voice! So fascinated I am, that I’m looking forward to getting one of her CDs!!0__0
Thank you for the lyrics!
Greetings from Mexico!!

For people who think the lyrics doesn’t match the movie…
I was also wondering where is the “home” of Beowulf, shouldn’t it be Finland or Sweden(I’m sure I’m wrong about the place but wherever the place where Geats come from), that doesn’t make sense if Beowulf the “hero” should go home to his original place instead. But actually “home” might means “the right path”.
You may already know the Beowulf story in this movies is different than the Original legend. If we gonna re-tell a story with meaningful thoughts to the contemporary world, it will be modified to our daily life in order to inspire feelings from the audiences. In here we have pride, greed, lust, unable to face own’s failure due to pride…and, Grendel and the fire dragon are both close to adulterine(and cause their father trouble/revenge)…etc. Expecially there is this bestselling author Neil Gaiman in the crew, complicated couples secret lives are not so surprising.
So should we blame the “hero” in the movie has been weak and failed? Yes, everything is too late. Nothing can turn back to normal as before. But still, “a hero comes home”. As a man with conscience, you will still comes home, as women might as generous as to not to defame you, and still call you a hero.
In the movie the queen cannot love the man who’ve failed, but the ending song tells you if there is a women singing a song like that, doesn’t it makes you think?

This song is awesome. Normally I only listen to Techno and House, but this song is so wonderfully done, that even I like it a lot. It fits the movie perfectly and is a beautiful song anyway.
Perfect song for soldiers wifes to sing to their children, too. Though they might skip the “dead or alive” part.

The Song it’s self Is Good And Should Be Sung in a somber tone as if you are singing about your father who has gone to war cause in the eyes of a child their daddy is always a hero but it is only their hope that they will always come home but the version that is played with the credits my god its like making a techno remix of Danny boy songs like these are meant to bring up symbolism and meaning from the time of our forefathers (and no Americans i don’t mean any dickhead born in the 1800’s i am talking 12th century range) as a people and many varied history’s we find with technology we tend to lose our heroes
